In 2010, 2 million books were published world-wide. End to end, those books would go from Los Angeles to New York. Those are just the new books!
Authors make a great niche. The work is fun and the skills to do them are high-value. The author market inclue aspiring authors, authors and small publishers.
Give your clients better advice and referrals on their publishing strategies (have you ever referred a client to a print-on-demand (POD) publisher without really understanding what they do?)
Sell more services to your clients - services that they need but haven't come to expect from you. One of the best ways to add profits to your practice is to add services to your current clients need, like the services authors and authors/publishers ask for most. Many author's assistants start with just providing author-related services and end up with the entire virtual account.

Cathy Davis, and her husband, Jack, work in partnership as Davis Creative, specializing in creating unique brand identities for their clients — from solo-preneurs working from their spare bedrooms to Fortune 100 companies operating out of corner boardrooms. Cathy spent most of her career marketing to high-net-worth accounts for Bank of America Trust and TIAA-Cref Asset Management. Jack spent his career with a global PR firm (Fleishman-Hillard) working on such accounts as AT&T, Gatorade and Emerson. Individually, they each have over 25 years of experience working for Fortune 100 and Fortune 'Top 10' companies. Together, they now provide their clients with strategic design concepts — from custom logos, to business marketing materials, to web-based graphics. Additional info and their portfolio can be found at: http://www.daviscreative.com/
Cathy tends to see the big-picture when it comes to book design. One of her former clients was a regional bookseller (sold out years ago to Borders), for whom they provided retail & window display as well as design and production of their annual Holiday Catalog. Cathy is also a self-published author of “SeeMore Frog and the Midnight Flight of the CanBees,” www.SeeMoreFrog.com.
Cathy helps small business owners and executives position themselves as experts in their field through the process of self-publishing. As a graduate of Jan King’s Virtual Author’s Assistant program, Cathy understands the self-publishing process, and supports her clients through her PLAN • PUBLISH • PROMOTE program. Cathy works with authors across the country, designing books to stand out — whether it is on the retail shelf or online. Four of their books were recently highlighted last July at the 2011 E-Women conference in Dallas (“SoulMate Proprietors”, “Deep Living”, “Irish Wisdom for Women”, and “The UnGame”). These, along with additional samples of some of their recent book designs can be found at: http://www.daviscreative.com/Publishing.htm If you are in need of a service that Davis Creative does not provide, Cathy connects you with resources around the country – including coaches, ghost writers, editors, proofreaders, virtual author assistants, publicists, etc.
